Occupying Montreal
On this rainy morning avec une gout de grippe I reluctantly picked up the phone and canceled the STM transport that was scheduled to get me in my motorized chaise de ronde down to the Occupy Montreal demo in Square Victoria.
Can’t be there to witness the historical birth of a new and potentially revolutionalizing movement so jotted down some feelings and thoughts for comrades and collegues and friends.
Was particularly thinking of my generation of activists who decided long ago to make the struggle for a society based on people and prosperity central to their lives.
I think we can pause a small moment to share the joy in the birth, however tenuous, of an international solidarity of workers and oppressed peoples in struggles against global captialism.
I think we can take some credit for its happening and definitely some critique for its delay in arriving.
Something not seen on this scale in decades.
Something transforming the balance of gravity.
Something thats makes anyone denying this changing of reality look a two dimensional cartoon of themselves.
Something that turns anyone in a position of power into potential mass murderers by consent and endorsement of routine oppression.
Something that turns people into revolutionaries ready to stand up and look those killers in the eyes.
We know you, we see you and we’re not afraid.
Solidarity.
