Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s “Junk” Terror Bill was signed on July 3 and aims to gives him over reaching powers to imprison human rights defenders, suppress peaceful dissent, eliminate Indigenous and Muslim opposition, and infringe on privacy, especially over social media.
Diaspora groups in Canada such as Migrante International and Anakbayan Canada recently held demonstrations at the US and Philippine embassies against the power grab, and call for solidarity against the US-backed Duterte regime.
