International solidarity against Canadian mining giant

I wanted to share this image with you of James Rodríguez, the photographer. James, a dear friend, accompanied a delegation of Canadian students (lead by Dr. Catherine Nolin of UNBC and Grahame Russell of Rights Action) to the community of Lote 8. James was kind enough to bring a copy of Canadian Dimension to share with the women, 11 of whom are involved in the case Caal v. HudBay Minerals of which you are all familiar from your Nov/Dec. issue. Featured here is James with Rosa Elvira (centre) and Irma Yolanda (right). Both women are in the photo used for the cover of Canadian Dimension.

I would encourage you to use this photo I have taken in a new issue to illustrate to your readers the importance of transnational solidarity and the benefit of working with people like James who cares deeply for the people whom he captures in his images. Sharing your magazine with the women shows them that since hearing their testimonies in 2010 have done just as they asked; to share their stories with the world with the world in the hopes of seeking justice.

Best wishes and many thanks, Alexandra (TA on the UNBC/Rights Action Field School)
