    Zelaya has returned, though this hardly means the de facto Micheletti regime has recognized the democratically elected president. Along with denying Zelaya’s return, Micheletti is trying to downplay the growing resistance to the coup regime. This resistance represents much more than outrage at the ousting of a democratically elected president. As one Honduran woman’s rights advocate said, “What Zelaya has done is symbolize the popular discontent accumulated over the years.”

    All too often, immigration dialogue is shaped by the self-congratulatory notion of toleration — a word meant to refer to an inclusive, pluralistic society, a country the lacks a dominant identity. But the very word ‘toleration’ assumes a norm, the group who accepts and accommodates the difference. As Canada’s immigration policy is under reform or change, I think there needs to be more discussion on the one word that has shaped policy in this liberal democracy.
