George Bush is coming to Calgary! Send shoes to give Bush the boot.

George Bush’s first international speech after finishing his presidency will be to the Calgary Rotary Club on March 17th, the sixth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, and the Calgary’s activist community would like to give him the welcome he deserves.

There will events throughout the week leading to Bush’s visit but for those outside Calgary we wanted to give you a chance to give him his due welcome. To that end the local activist community in Calgary is asking people from around Canada to send us your old shoes so they can be a symbol to boot Bush Out of Canada! We are hoping people will send shoes in from across the country to show solidarity.

Also, people can include notes or letters with their shoes and we will post them with the wall of shame or attach them to the shoes at the rally for people to see.

The sent in shoes will be displayed around the perimeter of the “George Bush Go Home Rally” and the conclusion of his trial. We are also going to build a shoe-cannon that will fire shoes at a picture of Bush.

The CUPW, Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Calgary Local has enthusiastically agreed to have their Calgary office as a location where shoes could be sent and stored:

CUPW -Calgary Local 109 - 5621 - 11 St. N.E. Calgary AB. T2E 6Z7

After the rally, some shoes will be sent to George Bush’s best friends and local MP’s, Stephen Harper and Jason Kenney. We will donate the remaining ones to an appropriate clothes bank.

For people in the Toronto area please drop your shoes off at the Canadian Peace Alliance office at 427 Bloor St west so we can send a package to Mr Bush. Contact cpa@web.ca for more info.

  • Left wing communism is an infantile disorder, according to Lenin. How right he was and how well you make his point. And your positive contribution is….?

Let’s really give George Bush his due: the creation of a constitutional, multi-cultural, democratic nation in the Arab World—the only one actually. Yes, it’s a fragile democracy—Arabs aren’t very good at democracy. The Kurds may be a healthy countervail. The Kurds, by the way, were thrilled by American-led intervention in Iraq and will be sorry to see American withdrawal.

Now why should I imagine that CD is interested in the truth?

  • Instead of sending boots to Bush,  why not send boots and other clothing to our “needy” throughout Canada.
The money used for organizing these leftist demonstations could be used to help “the homeless, the sick, or the poor” ....Once you left wing socialist had
“statesmen” and made positive reform -remember Tommy Douglas….The new young socialists seem to me to be engaging only is useless demonstrations, and propaganda.
Does this mean they have too much time and money?  And
who sponsors this kind of activity….Could they be conned by those extremist anti democratic, and Anti Canadian groups within our “Canadian Democracy”

They should be praising the Brave Canadians Defense Forces and the USA Presidents for having a active policy which defends our Democratic way of Life

  • To Dave: Can you believe the comment by Blue? I mean, can you believe there are still people so ignorant they still think the US is Iraq and Afghanistan (and now bombing Palestine non-stop) to bring Democracy? First of all the US is a REPUBLIC! How do enlighten the un-enlightenable? Anyone not comatose knows the “wars” are invasions for oil (Iraq) and the drug trade (Afghanistan)! Dave, what more can we do? Yours for 911 Truth

  • I’m to late to send you shoes but I send you all my blessing four your gesture towards Mr. Bush.

  • Regardless of your feelings on Bush, the accusations against him for war crimes (specifically torture) are very real.  Canadian law is clear that an individual that meets the legal requirement for suspicion (which is legally somewhere between accusation and admitted), is prohibited access to Canada.  Canadian law also specifically prohibits ex-leaders from diplomatic immunity.

Regardless how distasteful you find this protest (and I do find it distasteful while supporting the right to do it), our obligation is clear.  If we do not uphold our laws, what do we have?  This country was built on peace, order, and good government.  Order only comes from obeying the rule of law.

All that aside, I might stop by to observe and shoot some video.  Shoe Cannon?  Now that’s just has the potential for high comedy.
