Fighting back against CanWest Bully

May 14, 2008 A CanWest Media Bully public forum was held on May 14 to discuss the SLAPP suit by CanWest, which is attempting to silence Palestine solidarity activists like Mordecai Briemberg and 6 other “Jane Doe” and “John Does.” CLICK HERE for a history of the suit and to view the speeches given at the forum.

  • The Briemberg campaign is dishonest, and looking to suck in and dupe naive lefties and Jew haters. It’s not about a SLAPP action at all, as much as they tout it as such.

This is about copyright infringement, by printing and distributing a bogus broadsheet newspaper that was craftily made to mimic the vancouver Sun newspaper, but with blatantly antisemitic, anti-Israel messaging, that also defames the Asper family personally.

Now that Briemberg and his printer have been served legal documents they would like to try and sleaze out of this by passing offf their “Sturmer”-like screed as a parody. A close look at it reveals it as nothing of the sort.

Here is the front page of the item in question:

    http://www.straight.com/files/pdf/newsparody.pdf

It has a picture of the Aspers, describing them as “owning you.” It also has multiple references to Israel as an “apartheid” state or regime. These were intended to be understood as hateful. There’s no mistake!

Canadian Dimension is far more open to debate on a broader set of issues than most left and libertarian journals, particularly on issues that many journals find too ‘sensitive’ to handle.
