Pedro Antonio Marin, better know as Manuel Marulanda and 'Tiro Fijo (Sure Shot)', was the leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-Peoples Army (FARC-EP). He was without a doubt the greatest revolutionary peasant leader in the history of the Americas. Over a period of 60 years he organized peasant movements, rural communities and, when all legal democratic channels were effectively (and brutally) closed, he built the most powerful sustained guerrilla army and supporting underground militias in Latin America. The FARC at its peak between 1999-2005 numbered nearly 20,000 fighters, several hundred thousand peasant-activists, hundreds of village and urban militia units. Even today despite the regime's forced displacement of 3 million peasants resulting from scorched earth policies and scores of massacres, the FARC has between 10,000-15,000 guerrillas in its numerous 'fronts distributed throughout the country. (Keep reading...)

CARACAS — Venezuela accused Exxon Mobil Corp. of legal “terrorism” yesterday after the giant U.S. oil company won court orders freezing $12-billion (U.S.) of the South American oil supplier’s assets in a dispute at the heart of a worldwide tussle for control of natural resources. Venezuela’s oil minister Rafael Ramirez played down the rulings, reassuring investors they had little impact on the supplies, operations or cash flow of the state oil company, PDVSA, which he said has about $100-billion in assets. The people of Palestine have done it again, taking their own fate in their hands after being let down by their own “moderate” political leadership and, indeed, the entire international community in their struggle for freedom. Early this morning they simply blew up the wall separating Gaza from Egypt, breaking a siege imposed on them by an Arab government in collaboration with Israel. (Keep reading…)

Caracas, November 19, 2007 (venezuelanalysis.com) - The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) should reclaim its “anti colonial roots” and “convert itself into a geopolitical actor” in the fight against imperialism and exploitation, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez argued at the 3rd OPEC summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, over the weekend. Opposing him was key US ally, Saudi King Abdullah, who argued the organization’s goal was simply to ensure market stability and economic prosperity. (Keep reading…)

The most important issue facing America is not even being debated by the
presidential candidates. With the exception of Ron Paul, all of the
candidates are acting on the assumption that America’s interventionist
foreign policy should continue. They only differ on the details of the
intervention. (Keep reading…)

Buoyed by his re-election as president of Venezuela last December, and the continuing high price of petroleum in which his country abounds, Hugo Chávez is busily rallying countries opposed to United States’ hegemony in world affairs. He is doing so while preparing Venezuelans to develop resistance war as an effective anti-imperialist tool to counter Washington’s non-military campaign to overthrow his socialist government and seize Venezuela’s vast oil resources - an assessment disputed by the Bush administration. The first US Social Forum wrapped up on Sunday, July 1 in Atlanta, Georgia. That it happened at all seems almost miraculous. It is hard to remember any previous comparable gathering of diverse currents of US social movements. This is not a particularly dynamic moment in their history — the anti-war movement is bland and harmless, labor is largely flat on its back, student movements are weak and isolated, and the immigrant movement — the most assertive in years in terms of taking to the streets — has been weakened by the pervasive climate of fear. For that matter, in the eyes of many, the World Social Forum process has peaked (or at least is currently in a bit of a trough in terms of energy and creativity). (Keep reading…)

After spending five weeks in Bolivia this summer, I was
convinced that the new paths out of this destructive,
hateful morass we call neo-liberalism would come from
those most marginalized by its greed and violence.
Little did I imagine that one of the strongest signs of
this direction would come from the belly of the beast
itself. (Keep reading…)

Washington outlined in explicit language its plans to engage in sequential wars in the Middle East, Southwest and Northeast Asia and the Caribbean. Under the offensive military doctrine of ‘Pre-emptive Wars’ and the ‘Global War against Terrorism’, the United States’ pursuit of military conquest was backed by Israel, Great Britain and several newly incorporated client states from Eastern Europe. The White House’s grandiose scheme of world conquest was orchestrated and pre-maturely celebrated by top Zioncon (Zionist Conservative) officials embedded in the Pentagon, White House and the National Security Council.
