Voltaire's statistics on corn production/consumption seem quite at odds with those articulated in the article. How is one to sort out the fact from the fiction in this area?

The problem is Fiat Money is worth half what it was in 2001 before the war on some terrorists was started by the Neocons.

You now have investors buying anything NOT nailed down as a protection against further inflation. The dollar is in free fall.

Ethanol from corn only removes the carbohydrates from the corn, leaving the remainder as excellent livestock feed, it did not disappear when Ethanol was made, only reduced the amount and made it better for livestock to eat. Total corn production is some 75 million acres in USA,,, Out of 1.3 billion acres that is not a lot of land area.

One percent of corn grown in USA is direct human consumption, One percent for Whiskey. 92% cattle feed and the rest for junk food additives like High Fructose corn syrup.

Big deal!!!

Oh, the "perfect storm" is LOTS broader than just food - to see an article I've written about that, go to http://www.gaia-spirituality.org and click on the "Challenges to Come" link in the left frame. It's US-centric, but a lot of the problems discussed there apply to Canada, as well.
