Let me say first that I am not a supporter of unrestrained development of the Alberta Tar sands. However, I am concerned about the careless and incorrect use of area figures in articles such as the above. Thirty square kilometers does not equal 772 square miles--actually only 11.6 sq. mi. Also, 3400 sq. km, (1312 sq. mi.) is not anywhere close to the total area of Florida which is 58,560 sq. mi. Such obvious errors open environmentalists to criticisms of fear mongering and do much to discredit our attempts to bring pressure to bear against the horrific, ongoing environmental destruction in the area.

Is it too much to hope that opportunities for Ec Dev on Indigenous territories expand beyond killing the land, and into something eco-friendly? Why does it always have to be, 'we want your minerals, your gold, your diamonds, your trees, your oil, your fish, your furs, etc'. Exploitation is exploitation period. What will it take for justice for Indigenous people in Canada?
