Great article Cathy ~

Thank you for clearly illustrating so many pertinent issues about culture, ethnicity, conformity and creativity. You raise some provoking questions worth investigating about art practitioners and their purpose in society at writ; whom do they speak for and how does their work reference their audiences? Are artists as much to blame for the stereotypes they create and are they in charge of breaking the models to provide new horizons for aesthetics, thought and politic?
I really think that it is exciting / challenging times for Aboriginal artists to step away from expectations to respectfully present the culturally unexpected … Very liberating …

There is a new Edward Curtis documentary, The Indian Picture Opera. Its quite interesting. I found it on Amazon. This goes way beneath the surface of just looking at his photos.
