Israel Shamir's solution is that everybody should become orthodox christians. I don't think this idea is useful, at all - it falls rather into the general trend of pseudo-medievalism that has been sweeping the globe for several decades.

The first line of this article: "This is not about Jews." Well, certainly the rank and file Jews are just as misinformed and manipulated as the rank and file Gentiles when it comes to money and power and all that. But, there certainly is a strong religious/ideological element to the problem as Israel Shahak showed in his various works, and as Israel Shamir now shows in his various essays on the web. See also James Petras' latest article "Zion power and war" which is a devastating critique of the Israel lobby.

This article was very enlightening. I've been curious about the actual results that the Israeli lobby gets for their efforts.

Knowing the narrow, dogmatic anti-Israel agendas of the so-called "Progressives" on N. American university campuses, I can't blame Jewish student activists and the Jewish community for welcoming the establishment of a central organization with cash to fight back. Let's not kid ourselves: as a former student at McGill, I know that the pro-Palestinian groups did not lack sympathetic faculty, money for posters and scandalous speakers (including the infamous "Israel Shamir"), and a foothold in student government.

"In the fall of 2002, student protests at Concordia University led to the cancellation of a speech by right-wing Israeli politician Bejamin Netanyahu"

Umm.... not quite.

In the fall of 2002, a whole bunch of people rioted, smashed windows, and assaulted people, leading to the cancellation of Netanyahu's speech. I guess when pro-Palestinians use violence to suppress free speech, it's OK.

These incestuous relationships between governmant for the people, and private enterprise business types with hidden agendas and mixed loyalties, explains how Irwin Colter got his job as Attorney General in Prime Minister Martin's Cabinet. Here Colter is free to practice his Neocon art of curtailing free speech in Canada and jailing serious dissenters. So much for free speech.

"If you want to know who the movers and shakers are behind the king's throne, find out whom you cannot criticise".

This article is well-research and very informative. However, pro-Isreal lobbying efforts go far beyond York and Concordia. Pro-Israeli students did their best to scupper a visit to The University of Waterloo Campus by Prof. Norman Finkelstein author of "The Holocaust Industry" and, I suspect, this goes on in other universities as well. Also, how many Canadian universities have "Israel Studies" courses?

What is worse, there appears to be hardly a Canadian newspaper that is critical of Israel. In fact, any critical voices in newspaper letter columns are usually followed by spokesperson from Pro-Isreali such as the Canadian Jewish Congress or B'nai Brith who seem to have easy and immediate access to newspapers.

Not one federal party leader or party is going to raise the issue of Canada's foreign policy with respect to Israel, leaving Canada open to attack by individuals opposed to Canada's complicity in the suppression of people in Palestine and Iraq.

So true,

in the 70's we had a similar struggle when the United Left Slate was voted into office for the student government and brought Rabbi Elmer Berger to speak on campus. The Zionist student movement organized to expell us from office.
