I think what the author is trying to get across is the fact that modern western societies will experience a monumental decline in our standard of living. "Nuclear Pebble Bed Reactors" won't power our planes, trains or automobiles; nor will it make the multitude of petrochemical products we use everyday. In the not so distant future, we will be faced with stark options that industry, media and government fail to act on now. The best we can hope for is to become self sufficient in argicultural city-state arrangements. On the flip side, this continent could become a frightful Orwellian style police-state. The signs are already there.

You seem to be overlooking the emergence of
"Nuclear Pebble Bed Reactors" as a major solution
to the impending world power shortage.

I have a question for you...
According to President George W. Bush, "We're spending money on clean coal technology. Do you realize we've got 250 million years of coal?" (Washington, D.C., June 8, 2005). How is
Mr. Bush trying to address America's dependency on
hydrocarbon fuels?

Sincerely,
Ashley N. Thiessen
